Now that we have been back from our trip I figured that I would update the blog with some continuation and detail around resolution of some of our "Challenges"
The Mag Switch. This is the $55.00 item that failed and caused our port engine to not start. I went online to Seaboard Marine and ordered 2 of them since I figure if you are going to replace one of them you might as well replace both of them. The starboard engine starts just fine but I figure that replacing that one with a new one gives me some practice so that when I attempt the port side I have a fighting chance. The location of the Mag Switch on the starboard engine is eye level on the center line of the engine compartment so I can climb down there, crouch and there it is. The port side requires some contortion and general knowledge of what I am doing since I can not get to the outside of the engine so I will be doing it "Blind". 30minutes later I replaced the starboard Mag Switch and tested it. I tossed the old one, but good one, into the spare parts bin for use later if need be and punted on the portside engine as it was going to be too much fussing and I would probably drop something. So I called Debbie at Skipperbud's and asked her to write up an estimate for the port side Mag Switch and for fixing the motorized window vent on the windshield. It has 2 motors that lift each side. The starboard side is not moving.
It is Friday Aug 18 and the repairs are done. As it turns out the starboard side lift motor is just fine. It was way out of alignment. I guess all of that rockin and rollin out on Lake Huron is to blame. That is my story and I am sticking to it.
The master head......... Well, this one is more complicated. The whole vacuum generator assembly has been replaced. As it turns out we have been using the wrong TP for a few years. Too thick and the glue that holds the ply together is too gummy. That is from the mechanic. So we have been jamming up the works for a while now and it cried UNCLE at the beginning of our two week trip. So we have removed all of the wrong TP from the boat and purchased the correct kind and we are back in business. The reason that we had to replace the vacuum generator assembly is that I damaged it with the plunger and drain snake. Expensive lesson.........
I got a call from the Sales Manager at Burr Yacht Sales in Maryland indicating that a 1995 Fleming55 is coming on the market and it is located in Detroit. If this boat actually comes on the market then we are going to attempt to sell ours and acquire it. It sounds like there are others interested so step 1 is to go visit the boat next weekend and then see if we actually want to follow through. This is my dream boat and it is in an ideal location and has been on the Great Lakes for 20 years. We will see how this goes.
